Steel Elevator Buckets: Built for Heavy-Duty Service

Steel buckets deliver high structural strength and withstand heavy impact, large particle sizes and demanding temperatures. Carbon steel, stainless steel and other grades can be selected to match wear, corrosion, hygiene and temperature requirements.

The trade-off is greater moving mass. Steel buckets increase belt or chain load, power demand and operating noise. Carbon steel may also require protective treatment where moisture or corrosive products are present. Elevator structure, fasteners and drive capacity must be checked before replacing plastic buckets with steel.

A good selection process considers the complete duty. Use the following six checks before confirming material, bucket profile, size and spacing.

Define the conveyed product

Record bulk density, particle size, lump size, shape, flowability, moisture and corrosiveness.

  • Ignoring discharge behavior: a durable bucket can still reduce capacity if its profile does not release the product correctly.
