Mixed Steel Order Completed for Overseas Customer

YIQI Conveyor recently completed a mixed steel order consisting of 316 stainless steel strips and Q235 mild steel plates for an overseas industrial customer.

Although these two materials serve different purposes, they are often used together in machinery fabrication, conveyor structures, supporting frames, brackets and customized industrial assemblies.

For this order, the stainless steel material was supplied as narrow strips measuring 50 mm wide × 15 mm thick × 8 ft long, while the carbon steel plates were supplied in 4 ft × 8 ft sheets with a thickness of 2 mm.

Order Summary:
60 pcs 316 stainless steel strips, 50 mm W × 15 mm T × 8 ft L
10 pcs Q235 mild steel plates, 4 ft W × 2 mm T × 8 ft L

Why 316 Stainless Steel Was Used

Grade 316 stainless steel is commonly selected when better corrosion resistance is required than standard carbon steel can provide.

Its molybdenum content gives it improved resistance in chloride-containing, humid and chemically aggressive environments. For this reason, 316 stainless steel is often used in coastal facilities, chemical equipment, fertilizer plants, food-processing machinery and outdoor industrial systems.

In practical fabrication work, narrow stainless steel strips may be used for supporting parts, wear sections, reinforcement pieces, brackets or customized machine components where both strength and corrosion resistance are important.

For customers who need corrosion-resistant materials together with conveyor system components, stainless steel is frequently specified for parts exposed to moisture or aggressive working conditions.

Q235 Mild Steel for General Industrial Fabrication

The second part of the order consisted of Q235 mild steel plates. Q235 is widely used in China for general structural and fabrication work because it is easy to cut, bend, weld and form.

Unlike 316 stainless steel, Q235 is not selected primarily for corrosion resistance. Its advantage is practical fabrication performance and economical material cost.

The 2 mm sheets in this order are suitable for many light fabrication applications, including covers, guards, panels, brackets and supporting structures.

For projects where the steel will be used outdoors or in humid environments, additional surface treatment such as painting, powder coating or galvanizing may be considered depending on the final application.

316 Stainless Steel vs Q235 Mild Steel

Feature 316 Stainless Steel Q235 Mild Steel
Corrosion Resistance High Requires surface protection
Fabrication Good Very convenient
Typical Environment Humid, coastal, chemical General industrial use
Relative Cost Higher More economical

Dimensional Accuracy Matters for Cut Steel Products

For cut-to-size steel products, material grade is only one part of the order. Dimensions also need to be controlled carefully.

  • Material grade
  • Width and thickness
  • Overall length
  • Surface condition
  • Edge condition after cutting
  • Quantity

Packing Different Steel Products in One Shipment

Mixed steel orders also require attention during packing. Narrow stainless steel strips and large thin carbon steel sheets are very different in size, weight distribution and handling method.

Stainless steel surfaces should be protected from unnecessary scratching and contamination, while thin Q235 sheets need adequate support to reduce bending during transportation.

More Than Standard Conveyor Components

YIQI Conveyor mainly supports customers with conveyor components, including conveyor belts, rollers, pulleys, belt cleaners, conveyor covers and skirt rubber.

At the same time, some long-term customers also ask us to source or manufacture related industrial materials used in the same equipment or project.

Orders such as stainless steel strips and carbon steel plates are a good example. Instead of treating them as isolated materials, we review the dimensions, grade and intended fabrication requirement so they can be supplied together with other industrial conveyor parts when needed.

Conclusion

This shipment combined two very different materials: corrosion-resistant 316 stainless steel and economical Q235 mild steel.

The stainless steel strips were supplied in 50 mm × 15 mm × 8 ft sections, while the Q235 material was supplied as 2 mm thick 4 ft × 8 ft plates. Both were prepared according to the customer's required sizes before packing and delivery.
